Happy book birthday to Catch a Crayfish, Count the Stars! We’re thrilled to announce that Steven Rinella’s first book for kids is finally out in the world. It’s a treasure trove of outdoor adventures and woodsmanship skills, with projects and activities for kids to tackle throughout the year. Designed for kids ages 8 and up, Catch a Crayfish is now available wherever books are sold.
Young readers will learn how to gut a fish, track wildlife, build a shelter, make art using ingredients found in nature, and much more. They’ll also read about notable naturalists and conservation figures and learn why it’s so important to engage with the natural world.
“When you think of Earth, don’t just think of it as a giant sphere made of rock and dirt that is home to plants and animals,” Steve writes. “Instead, try to imagine the earth as a thing that is alive. [...] As for yourself, imagine that you’re a creature that has been given a home on the surface of this giant, beautiful creature.”
No family is immune from the pull of devices. But this book will show how to get your household started on a lifetime of adventures in the great outdoors.
